Press Release Local Workshop_4thGLV

A workshop on the circular economy was held today, November 26, 2025, within the framework of the Erasmus+ CicloSchools program, with the participation of 30 teachers and 10 prospective teachers, students of ASPAITE Volos, in the amphitheatre of the Mourzoukos school complex. The action was implemented through 5 round table discussions and was organised by the 4th General Lyceum of Volos, in collaboration with the Secondary Education Directorate of Magnesia and ASPAITE of Volos. The aim was to evaluate, assess, and pilot educational material specifically created for teaching circular economy topics in secondary schools.

Teachers, both permanent and preservice, were trained to implement the lesson plans that have been produced from the project and to put them into practice in the classroom. The circular economy curriculum also prepares students to participate in the March CicloHackathon, a competition where they will be asked to identify real environmental problems and develop viable, creative solutions based on the principles of the circular economy. This approach aims to reinforce the understanding that discarded materials can be given a new life, contributing to both sustainability and future business ideas.

The 4th General Lyceum of Volos is participating in an international consortium of schools and educational institutions under the auspices of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and has already installed the educational materials used within the framework of the program. The school’s teachers, as well as those from other schools, will be informed so that they can test the material and it can be effectively evaluated by those who will be implementing it. Participants aim to convey to students the understanding that many discarded items can become raw materials and continue their life cycle, even as future business opportunities. Because the initial strong awareness surrounding recycling has declined in recent years, as existing systems have discouraged public interest, the program aims to cultivate a new approach to the use and reuse of materials. The 4th High School of Volos is part of an international chain of schools working in the same direction, with the common goal of reducing their environmental footprint.
