CicloSchools enters the final stretch with solid results for Education for Sustainability in European schools
The partners of the European CicloSchools project met at the latest Transnational Meeting to share the results achieved and outline the final steps before the project’s official conclusion, which is scheduled for November 2026.
After almost three years of collaboration, the CicloSchools project – Education for Sustainability through School Hackathons on the Circular Economy, co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme – has launched a comprehensive toolkit of innovative teaching resources to help teachers incorporate the Circular Economy and Education for Sustainability into secondary education.
Representatives from the seven partner organisations in the Netherlands, Portugal, Germany and Greece attended the meeting, where they reviewed the project’s progress, assessed the indicators that had been met and planned the final steps to ensure that the results would have a lasting and sustainable impact.
Curriculum implementation and CicloHackathons exceed expectations
One of the highlights of the meeting was the presentation of the results from the implementation of the CicloSchools curriculum in partner schools.
Pupils and teachers immersed themselves in practical activities, all inspired by the Hackathon methodology, whilst tackling real-world challenges in the circular economy, environmental sustainability and innovation. The implementation enabled the validation of the educational materials created by the consortium and highlighted the potential of this approach to foster skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and problem-solving.
Comprehensive educational materials accessible to the entire school community
The project has now launched a collection of free resources, covered all aspects and aimed at teachers, trainers and schools:
- Research resources on Education for Sustainability and the Circular Economy;
- Teacher training;
- A CicloSchools curriculum based on active learning and school hackathons;
- Practical materials ready for use in the classroom;
- A MOOC platform with online content in various European languages.
All materials have been designed to simplify the integration of sustainability into school curricula and will remain accessible, both on the website and via the MOOC, even after the project has concluded.
Significant impact on the mobilisation and engagement of the school community
The consortium developed a comprehensive communication strategy throughout the project, which included newsletters, videos, social media, a website, in-person events and local outreach activities.
The partners also shared the outcomes of the multiplier events held in each country, which helped to disseminate the resources developed for teachers, schools, researchers, decision-makers and other stakeholders in the education sector.

As the project nears its conclusion, the partners have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the sustainability and implementation of the results achieved.
